Local Law 86, as most of you are aware, passed in 2005 and requires city building projects over $2M in construction costs to be LEED Certified (basic certification level for health and educational buildings, LEED Silver for everyone else) and requires more expensive projects to realize additional reductions in energy costs. The fiscal year 2009 report on projects subject to LL86 has been released and it shows some pretty good numbers. The more than $5B in LL86 projects under development are projected to reduce annual energy costs to the city by over $1M and, critically, reduce peak load demand by more than 2700 kw.
